Just to add to all the injuries I've been dealing with lately, and the cold that I've developed in the last few days - I thought a nice dog attack would be a good way to kick off the final week before my half ironman...

Yesterday, I prepared for my last good day of training, as I am pretty much taking all of this week off to rest. I went out to the lake and was planning on a 45min swim, followed by some transition work and a 40k ride.

I had just made some adjustments to my tri bars, so before I got ready to swim, I jumped on my bike just to ride around the parking lot to see how they felt. There was no other cars in the lot, and I didn't see anyone on the beach.

As I pulled out of the parking lot and got clipped in, two dogs came screaming up at me from the beach and started chasing me. One was on each side of me and they both started jumping up and biting my legs. I was going very slow but could not stop cause they were on each leg and I couldn't get out of my pedals. I ended up going about 100m before I could stop, and then the owners came running after them and got them on their leashes.

I ended up with about 6 bites...no blood thank god, but 4 of the bites have left huge swollen bruises on my calf, both thights, and one ankle. And you can clearly see teeth marks on all of them.

The 2 ladies who owned the dogs asked me if I was ok, but they didn't seem very worried. The one lady told my that they were Border Collie, and therefore trained to herd, and If I would have stopped they would have left me alone (as if it's my fault)

I was so in shock and scared and I just told them that I was ok and pushed my bike back to my car and left. I didn't even ask for their names or anything. I went home and went to my parents house and my dad called the doctor and cleaned me up. My dad was really BLEEPed off and wanted to go out to the beach and look for these ladies - but I told him they were long gone.

It's a public beach in a provincial park and dogs are NOT ALLOWED, there are signs everywere.

Anyways, I'm really mad that I didn't get their names or anything...but more just in disbelief that this happenend right now..as if I need another injury to stress about!!!

Anyways...there's my excitiment for the day. I guess the one good thing about this is that it will force me to rest this week!? And with everything that's gone wrong lately, it's all out of the way and everything will be smooth sailing come race day! Right!??

Wow, that was scary just reading about your dog attack. I hope things heal quickly for you and that you have a great half-ironman. I would hope too, that it is smooth sailing from here on. Hopefully that is all the bad luck you have and that things go great for you on race day. What is it with people that have to let their dogs go off leash, let alone not even supposed to be there? Take care and good luck.

Talia, Sorry to hear about your ordeal, I hope your legs heal fast! A few years ago I was going to have one last training day before my tri, so I rode my bike to the beach for a swim to be followed by a 15 mile bike ride and a 4 mile run... well, best laid plans and all of that! I go to the beach and into the water only to find the weeds were so thick I could hardly move my legs... ok, on to the bike ride then, well about a mile into my bike ride I was run off to road and blew out my tire! I called my husband to come get my bike. I was not hurt so at least I could go for a run, my heart was not in it, but I did what I could! I feel your pain, and wish you the best on your race next week!

KEEP MOVING!!!
