I have not been one to get cramps, but lately it seems that they are increasing in frequency and intensity.
In the pool I kept getting little cramps in the arch of my foot, these are painful and irratating, but two days ago I got one so bad in the calf, that I had to stop swimming. (These may be related to pushing off on the turns as the turns seem to bring them back.)
Today, I did a long, hilly bike ride (65+ miles), followed by a run. Everything seemed to be ok, then I hit a downhill on the run. I tried to extend my stride and WHAM! The hammy locked. I immediately stopped and stretched. Tried to take a step and WHAM again, All the way from behind the knee and up to the Glute (sp?).
What's happenin? I believe my hydration is good (I weighed the same before and after the brick), and I had 1/2 a banana for potassium. Any of you have ways to prevent these? tricks? foods? Vitamins? ANYTHING?

Try some Magnesium and E-Caps by Hammer Gel along with what you are doing. |

I've basically never had cramps, but got a couple of ugly ones recently. Took me a couple of days, but I finally made the connection to the fact that a couple of weeks before I had stopped my usual supplements, including magnesium, to see if it made any difference. Resumed the magnesium and feel MUCH better, with no cramps since then. Magnesium is cheap, and also helps with relaxation. I take it at bedtime. Hope this helps! |

I think you can get them through Performance or just google Hammer Gel and you can probably order them online. Either that or your local tri/bike shop will probably have them. |

Jim,
Oh man, I know that "IGOR" feeling!!... I get cramps all the time and I like you believe my hydration is fine. Sometimes I get cramps early on a run for no apparent reason.... Swimming has been okay but I do get them sometimes too!
Cramps have hindered me for years... I have tried a million things and I am still searching for the best solution.. One thing that has helped a little bit has been to roll out on a foam roller every night and take a potassium tab with my multi's
Let me know if you find a better solution!
