Pamela,

Good for you!!! Walking 26.2 is no....walk in the park. That is a tough distance no matter how you cover it. I have walked 18 miles before for "enjoyment" and at the end I was hurting. Best advice is to steadily increase your mileage over the next several months. See if you can find a walking plan online that gives you some structure or you may find yourself creating your own plan. BEST tip is to make sure you have some GOOD shoes. The feet and toes will be aching. DO NOT wear cotton socks and you may want to rub some vaseline or Body Glide on your feet and between your toes when the miles start adding up. Wear a hat and sunscreen because it will be a long day. Start training with some GU and/or Power Bars because you will need to replace the calories you are burning while you walk. Stay hydrated and drink drink drink....and then drink some more. You may want to purchase a CamelPak or CamelBak. It will hold up to 2 liters of water. Some models will hold more but I think 2 liters is the standard size. Get the one with a few little pockets so you can carry your keys, cell *****, few dollars, GU etc. I have the Lobo and it works great!!!

Pamela,

Good for you! I have done it twice and now I am running marathons. There are some great books out there on walking marathons do a search and buy one. Jim gave perfect advice. The marathon is much more exciting than the training for sure. I walked up to 20 miles in training. Most of all, have fun and enjoy the journey!!

Hey Pamela,

Good for you! A friend of mine walked a marathon with her sister-in-law and they both had an awesome experience.

If there are any good running stores near you they should be able to give you advice and might be able to help you hook up a group or individuals that are training to walk that distance.

Good luck with the training and keep us posted.

Nice work Pamela!

Sounds like your training is going really well.

I'm glad to hear you're keeping the strength training, that will help make you a strong walker and prevent injuries - just make sure to strecht lots (log in with your workouts to encourage you to do it more).

Keep us posted on your progress.

Good for you Pamela..I think I will look into a half marathon walk first. Since I do 10K walks already..the half marathon might not be that much a stretch and OK for an initial goal.

I wish you the best of luck and just was looking at the Team Prevention site myelf. What a great site.
