Anyone else looking forward to cross country skiing all winter? I know I am! I just thought I'd post to see what other xc-skiers are out there, and what everyone's been doing to train for the new season. Only 107 days until the Birkebeiner!

I am but I need new skis. I didn't get out much last year because of the lack of snow around here but this year I am hoping we can keep some snow on the ground. ;)

I need new skis too. Well actually, I just need skis...I've never owned a pair before! I just started skiing last year and I wasn't sure if I'd like it, so I just rented skis from my college to try it out. Now I'm hooked, and I would end up paying much more renting them than if I just went out and bought some. So REI, here I come :)

I also agree about snowshoeing...I took a snowshoeing class last year where we went snowshoeing about six-seven miles once a week... at the beginning I thought, "What's the big deal? This is just like walking." Eight weeks later, I had changed my mind. Skiing is really fun, but I do admit there's nothing like crashing through the woods past fisher tracks and guinea hen burrows, or even spotting wolf tracks up in northern Wisconsin. Ooooh, I'm getting anxious for snow!

I'm looking forward to some X-country too, it makes a nice change from running. I just have to be patient and wait for the snow on the local hills to come low enough on the mountains for the trails to be usable. Vancouver's all about snowboarding/downhill but there are some decent places for Nordic.

Sarah, have you done any showshoe racing? We have a Yeti series here where people snowshoe race. I've never done it but it looks like a blast.

Anyone made it out yet? I was XC skiing yesterday on a local hill and it was beautiful - great weather, great view, perfectly groomed trails and not too big of a crowd.

I'm doing a short road trip on the coming weekend to do some more skiing, combining a trip out of the city, visit with the parents and (hopefully) a great day of skiing.

I need some snow here in MN before I can get my skis out. :( Looks like we might have some more this week. Come on snow!
