I have a standing date with Jessica. Once a week we get out and run together. I like to run farther than her so I leave at 5:30 am, run to her house and we run a loop back to her house, then I run home. It's 7 miles for me and about 2.5 for her.
This morning nothing in my body wanted to go, I prayed for rain (even though we don't need it) but it didn't come. So out I went at 5:30 am. When I got to her house she came out and I said "How are you this morning?" She said "GREAT!" I told her I was hoping that she would say that she felt as crappy as I did. She laughed and said that she was trying to talk herself into feeling good! ;-) We decided that we will always just get out there and run together even if we don't feel like it because the other person is counting on us.
By the end of our run I felt great, was very glad that I ran and that the sun is shining...
Moral to the story... a running buddy keeps you accountable, GET ONE!!!
KEEP MOVING!!!! |

My running buddy and I always do our track and tempo workouts together...most weekends we even get our long run in together too (we have only 3 acceptable reasons for missing long runs...but I won't bore you with those!)...nothing beats suffering in silence with someone else...you can tell from their breathing that the workout is hard for them as well and when you need a little boost the other one is there to give it to you. I do like an occassional run by myself to enjoy the peace and quite but when it comes to a workout that looks intimidating just reading it, a running buddy is definitely the way to go!! We should ask the folks at Budlight to make us a "real men of genius-we salute you, the running buddy..." commercial! :) |

Another good thread,
Good point...running partners do make you accountable. I can only imagine the 3 reasons for missing the runs....
Cute boy, hot boy, bad boy.
Keep it moving and keep it fun.

I agree with the running buddy idea. I am a cyclist, and just started running about 3 years ago when my now running buddy, and still my cycling buddy, convinced me to do a triathlon. That meant I had to start running. We are now traing for my first half-marathon in June and my first full marathon at the end of the year. If it were not for him (he is a seasoned marathoner) I would not be running at all.
Thanks running buddy...a real man of genious. |
