I hope I am not raising a question here I shouldn't, but I'd like to hear the unique benefits of this site to runners. There are several freebies out there for runners, but I see a lot runners posting info here.

What are things about this site that make it worth the money to you? I've been here about a month, and I'd like to hear why other runners use this site compared to somewhere else.

Thanks!

Well, $35 smackers for a years worth of use... I runner spends more than that in one trip to the running store..... Heck, more than that at the grocery store. So, the cost is not bad.

Like minded athletes. You are surrounded by everyone from a first time 5k'r to veteran marathoners posting race results from Home town fun runs to the Boston Marathon. Their advice is free for the asking, and commonly given with ease.

Chris Watson: I'm not aware of Chris ever turning down a request to improve this site for the betterment of everyone signed on. Chris has done a great job in bringing us all together in one site to share our experiences and results.

I never thought to ask this sort of question, but I guess after using FJ for so long the answer was always obvious.

Thanks again Chris!

PS...I just checked the updated prices (I guess I was dating myself there...) Anyway even at 45.00, or better yet 100.00 for a couple year membership.. it's still a great deal.

It's been a week since I first started this thread, and I must say there are some things I have found unique to this site that compel me to pay to be here.

First, the discussion boards are fantastic. I love the interaction and the encouragement found here. The freebie boards aren't even in the same league in that respect. FJ is a community of fitness-minded folks, all seeking to encourage and help one another.

Second, the graphics are superb. When I log into FJ, the first thing I see is the graph reminding me what exercise I have done for the day or have yet to do. It also gives me a glimpse of how I've done so far in my week. There's nothing on the freebie sites that compares.

Third, I really appreciate the openness of Chris to any and all suggestions. While I know he can't make this site all things to all people, he does listen and he does genuinely care for what he is doing here. Again, there is no comparison to the freebie sites -- FJ blows them away.

Fourth, this site is growing and evolving with the needs of the clients -- it is not a "take it or leave it" situation. I'm excited about being here, not only because of what is offered currently, but because of what is sure to come in the near future in the way of improvements.

I was hoping this thread would get more response, but a week of steady interaction with FJ has pretty much answered my own question!

David,

Usually there is more response to something like this. I think we are all busy trying to squeeze in everything. I like the support from others, usually very positive. There are some very good athletes on this site who give advice including some coaches and trainers. Good advice on products. I love the graphs.

It has improved my exercise regiment. I have been on the site for almost two years and after looking at the first year of my exercise I made some changes and there were only 5 weeks in the past year where I didn't exercise ( awesome for me! One was a rowboat/motorboat collision and then the other 4 I moved/retired/bought new house/got new job).

I am more connected to other people who like to exercise and have really benefitted from that and have also helped a few others. I like the chat ability. When I finally did log on after my travels I had a few messages from people who wondered where I had gone for about 6 weeks.

Chris has been very helpful. I think the price is a bargain. As Kim said, I spend more on a trip to any store.

Terry

Designed by an athlete for athletes. I was an early user and Chris implemented a bunch of my suggestions for the site. One of the few sites where I feel I get equally good support for logging my running and logging my other sports. Love the graphics. In general, this site has everything I want and less stuff I don't than a lot of other sites. And, as everyone has pointed out, the community here at FJ is the best. Also, I know I don't have to worry about the site "dying" and losing all my info. There is a great interface if I want to transfer information to other programs/places (a lot of the freebies, it just is on their site).

Hi David - It really seems you answered your own question like you said.

Community.

I do not know Seema, Jim Campbell, and Kim Torgenson....... But they are always on the discussion boards and open to helping.

The visuals on improvement of fitness level. Being able to track a workout and see improvement.

Good to have you.
