This is something that has always bothered me. I live in Minnesota, and sometimes running outside is just not an option given the weather extremes. Ergo - I run a lot on treadmills. Every time, I wonder how accurate the speed/ distance measurement is on the machine and how much disparity exists between machines. I know the calorie counts are bogus and I couldn't care less about that...but I do like to determine milage based on those readouts and would like to know their accuracy. If anyone has run across any information on this and felt like sharing - that would be terrific.

I work on treadmills and have gone through the calibration procedures. I've never had to make any adjustments as they have always been within specs. Now, I'm working on "hospital grade" treadmills so they may be more accurate than your treadmill you find elsewhere. Just my experience.
