Hi Melissa. To get a general idea, you can go to fitday.com or nutridiary.com. You enter your height, weight, activity level, etc., and it tells you approximately what your calorie needs are to sustain your current weight. Then you can enter various types of exercise with intensity levels and duration, and it counts those up for you. There are other places you can do the same thing, but the user interfaces at these two are simple. Cheers. John

Melissa,

If you go to the "charts" section of this website and look at "Melissa's BMR" it will tell you how many calories you should take in to maintatin your weight before you do any exercise. It also will show up on your home page if you are entering calories in your food journal. The calorie expenditure chart on the home page will tell you how many calories you need to eat to make up for the workout you do too. I use this as a tool to make sure I'm eating enough to keep my energy levels up, but still loose weight. Once I'm at my goal weight (7 more pounds) I plan to use this as an important tool to let me know if I am eating the proper amount of calories to maintain my weight. Good luck...

Tammie

Hi Ladies. Just to clarify, the BMR calorie count given here is for calories needed to sustain the body at rest (that's in the description). It doesn't include calories burned while working, doing the grocery shopping, or other activities including exercise.

That's the reason I recommended Nutridiary. You can easily compute the BMR, plus general activity, and then a specific count for each type of exercise that you do. You can compare how many calories you'd burn in a certain amount of time, say, walking 3 MPH versus cycling 15 MPH. Cheers. John

Great Job Tammie! Your are absolutely correct. You CAN see on the home page the calories that you need on a daily basis, AS WELL AS the calories you accumulated with respect to your completed workouts. The homepage DOES IT ALL for you as long as you input the calories in the food journal and log your workouts in the workout journal. Personnaly, I add my own calories into the workout journal that I take from my HRM. The ones on the site are good, but I think mine are more accurate. Either way, Chris has gone to great lengths to insure you have all the resources available to you right here at FJ.

Melissa~ You have all the information at your fingertips here at FJ, Good Luck!
