I have been dealing with a pulled groin muscle for nearly two weeks now. The first week I stopped running and just walked, and the second week I didn't do my walking at all. I normally cover 3 to 4 miles. The muscle was feeling much better until yesterday, when I went for another run. Now it is aching again and will no doubt hurt much worse if I walk or run a long distance.
Any suggestions on what I can do to best promote healing? How long does it normally take?
Thanks! |

I am afraid rest is the best cure. Not sure of the healing time, I guess that depends upon you. Can you test it with some mild stretching? Best of luck. I am recovering from a hamstring and a foot ligament. I was off the road for 2 weeks. |

The end of March I hurt myself running, but I kept running on it thinking I could work it out or something. Really, it didn't hurt a whole lot running, but the next day it was difficult to walk, especially in the morning. I went to the doctor about 3 weeks later because I thought I might have arthritis, runs in the family. Well silly me, I had a deep groin pull. I had been taking ibuprofen in the morning to get the ache out an get me started. The doctor recommended (for me) that I take 800 mg. or any amount less than that that was effective every 4-6 hours to work on the inflammation. The injury needs a continuous flow to fight the inflammation. Also, he said that it would take quite a long time to heal, as professional athletes with electrolysis and daily physical therapy are out of their sports for like 6 weeks. It has been about 2 months now. I've tried to run on it occasionally in the past when it seems to have disappeared only to reaggravate the injury. I ran three days ago, and I barely noticed a thing, so I'm going to ease back into it and just read the signs. I have found stationary biking and mountain biking to have no ill effects and have used them for cardio upkeep. Let me know how your injury healed. |
