I am going to try and run a half marathon (my first) in December. How many week out do I need to start training and does anyone have a recommended training schedule for a first timer? I have a base of 18 to 21 miles per week. It has been just plain vanilla type of running.

Hi Bob,

Are you training for the White Rock Half, by chance? I live in the Mid Ciites and will be doing the half in November and the Marathon in December. You shouldn't have any trouble training for the half with a 20 mile base right now. I would recommend that you go to the Runners World website and look under training. They have several programs to choose from. You can pick the one that best fits your goals. Steve

Steve,

I am going to run a half that I think they offer during the White Rock Marathon. Thanks for the tips.

Anthony, I was just reading some old posts and noticed this one. I am doing a 1/2 Marathon on May 18th, and according to your advice I am right on track. I will be doing a long run in the morning (13 miles) so we will see how well I do.

KEEP MOVING!!!
