Hi! I was trying to find the correct place to post this, but couldnt and now I see where Im supposed to be...sorry. Over this past weekend I rolled my foot and ended up spraining my ankle. I have been on crutches for 3 days and am now able to go off them but must continue to wear an ankle splint with my shoe. Question: I registered for a race that takes place the 28th of October (half marathon). I have run halfs before. Do you think I should run it? If so, should I get a couple runs in before hand? What do you all think?

LYN...OUCH! Heal quickly. You've got to totally listen to your bod on this one m'dear. I wouldn't go in cold that's for sure. Is it walker friendly? You could always go as far as you can (listening, listening) and give yourself credit for what you can do instead of focusing on what you can't. I'd hate for you to do more damage because you feel you HAVE to run the race if it would be better not to for your body. Doctor opinion? Trainer opinion? These are just my random thoughts as I drink my coffee and check out FJ. I hope they help a little! Beverly |

Just been through this and my doctor said no to a half marathon that I was scheduled to run three weeks from my visit with him. He said "it just isn't worth it, Nadine". I am slow getting back to my regular mileage but I am confident that I am not continuing to injure my ankle. Be patient, it isn't worth it, Lyn. ;-) Nadine |

Lyn, I never had to go on crutches, but he did put me in an air cast. I was limping along that is for sure. The cast really did support my ankle and I think helped it heal better. I ran today for the first time, 5 miles and I had no pain. So, it does pay off to take your time. I don't know how old you are -but as we get a little older we need to be more patient and make sure that we are healed. I am 48 and I want to be running for a very long time. Keep me posted. Nadine |

Thanks for all your help! I went to the doctor on Friday and basically he told me the same thing he told you. It isnt worth it to run too soon. He wants me off running til the 13th of November which would be 4 weeks of no running. He says I can swim and walk to my heart's content. Its not the same but I will be patient and wait. |

Lyn, I just went to the gym and swam and anything that didn't involve pressure on my foot. I am back to full running now. Woo-hoo! Hang in there. |
