After much deliberation and riding this bike and that, I've purchased a new Trek Madone 5.1 WSD. Took her out for her first ride today. Talk about smooth.... Ahhhh..... I'm gonna hafta get out and ride lots and lots - got a compact double instead of the triple I'm used to. Will need to build up some muscle!
Anybody else getting new bikes for the cycling season? |

sticking with the old bike this year. I still don't ride enough to justify new, but am hoping to triathlon this year, so planning for more mileage. Looking forward to it as the weather is warming up nicely this week |

Fun topic -
After being very disappointed with the Felt replacement frame, I decided to build my own bike.
I built up a new Madone SSL, Dura Ace Shifters-derailers-chain-Bontrager carbon stem and cranks, Mavic Ksyerium ES wheels, and Easton carbon bars and seat post.
I was pretty proud of my build cost, from much work on E-Bay, Craigslist, and online shop sales. This bike showed a retail of over $8,000 new in 2006, I built it up for under $2,800. It is an awesome bike, but all this being said... It's not about the bike! I am still one of the slowest in my group.

I took the leap and bought my first road bike...a Giant. I'm training for a duathlon now. I love it when the weather is nice enough to ride outside. Even bought an odometer for it - very fun! |

Ah yes, I'm slow too. But I figure improvement is just that much easier to see then! I got my first road bike when I decided to do a tri - a Bianchi Imola. Great ride, just a bit heavy (that's an understatement). We went ahead and lightened it up with a carbon fork and some good wheels, but it was still fairly heavy. Decided that I'd like to do more cycling. And get better at it (no races for me - I just wanna get out, enjoy myself, and not get passed by every Tom, Dick, and Harry).
Unfortunately, the only way to get to a better climber is to get out and ride hills, huh? Isn't there some magic pill? :) Any other suggestions to improve my hill climbing abilities? Thanks! |
