Since this is your first marathon, make finishing your goal. Having a finishing time goal is good, but don't let it ruin your race trying to obtain it. I did L.A. back in 1993. good course, although it got pretty warm that day. So stay hydrated, and I find there is no shame in taking walk breaks. |

I have done 2 marathons to date, each separated by about 4 years. I have since switched to tri's.
I used Galloway's book on running and followed his marathon program. It worked and I achieved my goal of finishing. Stay hydrated and stick to the program.

I ran the LA Marathon as my first marathon in 2002. I tried for too aggressive of a goal and injured myself. I finished the race but ended up walking the last few miles. My advice for a first marathon is to have a goal of finishing the course and have fun. |
