Hello,

I completed my first TRI in August and want to keep cycling. I have been dragging my Trek hybrid in and out of my van but I would like to purchase a rack to mount on my van. Any suggestions for a newbie? I don't want anything too fancy but I started searching online and became overwhelmed. I would appreciate any input. Thanks,

Kathylyn

I guess is depends on the type of van. For our minivan and PT crusier, I have a Saris Bones 3 - the same adjustment fits both so I don't have to fiddle around with it any more when switching between cars. Its a little difficult to get setup at first but is ok one its on. If you use the back of your van often, the problem becomes the doors abiltiy to support the weight of the rack when open. Its a pain if it falls on your head. I've looked several times, but havent bit the bullet on getting a rack that works with a trailer hitch. I'd have to add the hitch on my cars, so it really adds to the expense, but these will tilt out of the way with bikes on them to access the back. They look real nice if you already have a hitch adapter.

David I went to a local bike shop and I think they had the Saris bones. I'm still investigating. Thanks for the information, I hope I will avoid the head injury.

Well yesterday I hit the jackpot. I called around to a bunch of stores asking about which racks they had in stock. I then thought of "Play it Again Sports". They just got a Saris bones 3 in this week on cnsignment, it was brand new (still had the orginal ties on the straps). It was $39.99!!! I also got a brand new floor tire pump for $11.99. I had a coupon for $10 off. So, for ~$45.00 I got a brand new bike rack and tire pump!!!!
