Any thoughts on diet, sports drink, bars etc that are vegan friendly?

So far, Cliff bars, homemade PBJ and Gatorade drink are at the top of the list.

Anyone make it through a Tri season (1/2's and/or Full) on a vegan diet?

Hello! Over a year ago I went adopted a fully Vegan diet. It was hard at first to find good quality complete proteins to support muscle growth (as I weight train 3-5 days/week - try to consume 1g/lb body weight). I haven't had any problems maintaining my weight training or cardio regime since the change in diet. Let me know if I can help you with any specifics...

Generally, I also try to stear clear of sports drinks. Nutritionally empty sugar calories and unless you are training for hours on end the electrolytes are commonly unnecessary. I love cliff and luna bars. I also supplement with soy protein (2nd to the whole soy bean) but really helps with packing in the extra protein. My favorite breakfast pre-workout is cooked oat bran, with 1/2 banana (for taste and natural sweetness) and a scoop of chocolate soy protein powder all mixed together. High in fiber, protein, complex carbs and protein. I usually eat this with a piece of fruit! It doesn't look like much in the bowl but it is VERY FILLING! and keeps me feeling full for hours. Eventhough I have a planned snack about 3 hours later.

If trying to train Vegan; just make sure that you pay close attention to your dietary intake and make sure that you are hitting all of the food groups. Fruit, Veggies, Legumes, Whole Grains, nuts and seeds! And you shall stay a happy Vegan! I hope this helps!

Yes, I am vegan. Great lifestyle. Cold turkey is best way to go. Just make sure you eat whole foods. After 21 days it become a habit. I think it's harder on other people than on me. You don't need as much protein as you think. Just stay away from sugar and make sure you eat complex carbs. Only ocassional vegan treats. Anything that contains fat and sugar will have the same effect even if it is "healthy" for you!

Hi there,

I've been vegan for close to 2 years now. I've found plain ol' water and a bag of trail mix to be better than sports drinks or bars. The trouble with things like Cliff bars is they contain large amounts of soy protein isolate. This is far from 'natural' or even particularly healthy. Its also one of those things people frequently end up developing intolerance towards. Its less convenient but a bag of nuts and dried fruit is probably much better - at least it really is a natural snack.

Cheers
