The Vineman is using Gatorade Endurance. I have started using this in my workouts about 3 weeks ago, but I find that it is not the easiest to get down. It does not seem to upset my stomach, but it just does not taste as refreshing as pure gatorade. I think it is due to the higher sodium content.
So, my question - How much should I try to wash down for my 1/2 ironman this weekend? My plan was 2 bottles on the bike. Is that too much? On my training rides I have been doing one bottle, but, I will need to plan on more replenishment for the run.
So here is my plan:
Couple of swigs before the swim - - 2 bottles of Gatorade Endurance on the bike, and 2 waters on the bike.
On the run I plan to drink a cup of hydration at every support stop, perhaps 1 cup gatorade, 1 cup water, then 1 cup water and repeat.
Any thoughts?

I've never drank gatorade or any other sports drinks. what are the consquences of not? I understand my electrolytes could get out of sync. but I don't understand what that means. |

Great question - hydration and energy are the key. Gatorade provides quick absorbtion of carbohydrates to run the muscles for extended periods of time. the higher sodium helps to retain some of the water taken in for hydration and replenish what's lost through sweat.
In my opinion exercise of 1 hour or less does not require an energy drink. 1-2 hours, probably not either. However, over 2 hours is definitely requires some replenishment.
