Everyone has their own favorite pair of shoes and brand that they follow. Do you find that you are willing to hop from brand to brand (no pun intended) or are you more likely to stick to a tried and true shoe? Lets hear about your favorite pair of shoes and why you like them. |

Here is the web-site to the Newton shoe i was telling you about in Monterey
www.newtonrunning.com
I'm still thinking of buying a pair this next year.
Does anyone own a pair of Newton shoes and how do you like them?

I have never heard of the newton shoes beyond what you mentioned. They look totally cool. I'd love to hear some feedback from anyone who happens to have a pair. It looks like they have some of the same qualities of the Nike Free, which I really like. They are pretty expensive though.. 155 bucks is a lot for a pair of shoes :-)

Good subject Chris,
I jump all over the map. I usually buy spontaneously based on when I need a shoe and what I like at the time. I really like the Nike Hurrache, but it's now discontinued.
I went to a local running store and had a gait check w/ shoe recommendation. Ended up buying a pair of New Balance ABZ RB?
Here's where I could use some feedback. The person said I had one leg shorter than the other and recommended a lift. I ran yesterday with the lift which supposed to keep my hips from over-twisting. Over the long term its also supposed to straighten my posture some.
Anyone have similar experiences? I am thinking I should see a chiropracter before continued use of the lift.

Chris,
I usually have 4 or 5 pair going at one time My tried and true pair are New Balance 587. They are the best I have found for a big guy with wide flat feet who likes longish distances. I have some New Balance 620 for gym stuff and then a couple of different pairs, brands or styles that I will try out to see if I can use for a substitute in case they ever quit making the 587 like Greg had happened to him. I've had some Asics, Brooks and other NB. I'd like to try other brands when I can. |

Money is no object when you have it. But what happens when you don't? I'm taking donations!!
I love my pair of Saucony Trigon they run around $90-$100 so when these die i would like to try the Newton shoes but, I would love to hear for someone who has a pair. I'm doing the Napa Marathon in March and would like to be able to run in the Newton's for a good 3 months before the race.

I'm really impressed with the new Nike Air Zoom Plus that I've bought. I haven't even needed to break them in, just no blisters at all!
I always buy Nike though, they just seem to fit my feet, and they go down to a size 3. I deviated and bought a reebok pair of cross training shoes a few months ago (kids size) and they just don't fit my feet. I get blisters from wearing them to the shops or to drive in. |

I run in Newtons. I tried them at the Florida Half Ironman expo. It takes about 15 miles to get used to them because they are designed a little differently and make you run biomechanically correct. I have a history of achillies tendonitis and have not had any problem with that since I've been running in the Newtons. The sales person was awesome. I was concerned about spending that much money and continuing to have numbness in my toes when I run. The Newton person did a quick evaluation and referred me to a podiatrist who ordered orthotics (the Newton person made orthotics for 20 years) and I've had no numbness since. I used to run in Avia because of the achillies tendonitis, but now I'm loyal to Newtons-well worth the money! |

Great information on the Newtons Kelly. Looks like they are certainly worthy of serious consideration, even at that price. |

I have been using Asic 2110's but only because I get them on sale at Sports Authority! This past month they had the Brooks GTS on sale so I bought them. So far so good. They haven't had any real issues. I find the Asics had a little more cushioning but it is not a significant diffference. I too use orthotics. I got mine when I was about ten years old. After football practice my ankles would hurt so bad I would soke them in hot hot water! My pediatrician at the time told my mother to bring me to a podiatrist and the rest is history! I have several pair and keep a set in each of my shoes(running and work) and never have a problem. I had some achilles tendonitis but that was last year and a case of too much too soon. This year I built up slowly (and I'm in better shape) and haven't had any issues. I have some friends that had plantar faciitis (sp?) and ortho's helped.
Bottom line for me-any shoe of decent quality is OK, most of the biomechanics are taken care of thru the orthoditic. Some general info I've gleaned is that Nike's tend to fit women and those with narrow feet best. You can't go wrong with New Balance. And like I said, any $80-90 made for running gives me what I need, I just wait for it to go on sale and I buy a couple of pairs! |
