Yesterday during my walk / run marathon training, around mile 14 I started getting a pain in the ball of my left foot. I thought about stopping but thought that was just negative thoughts so I pressed on. By the time I stopped at mile 17 I was hurting pretty bad. After a day of resting it still feels like I am stepping on a small rock when I try to walk normally. My Asics Kayanos have 115 miles on them and I even wore the Kayano socks. My wife noticed that the inserts were not much thicker under where the ball of my foot would be than a couple of tortillas. My questions are these. What is the fastest way to recover from a foot injury? Does anyone recommend any shoe inserts that can provide comfort and durability for a 205 pound guy?
I know yesterday my back was a little sore and I'm sure I wasn't running with the best posture. I figure I was favoring my right side and thus the reason for the sore left foot. I like the shoes a lot and guess I just need to figure on changing out the inserts every 100 miles. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. My left foot thanks you.

Hi Bob,
If you can find yourself some gel heel inserts, you may find that assist in cushioning this area of you foot. Also, be sure to watch the pain in your heel as you may be developing a heel spur (not something a runner wants to hear!) NOt saying you have one - just something to definitely watch out for.
Have you also had your feet assessed to check that the Kayano is actually the right shoe for your foot type? I know that it's a very popular shoe, but I know many people who wear it when it's not the right shoe for their foot type and end up with sore feet and injuries.
Good luck and I hope your left foot is feeling better. Get well left foot!
Cheerio for now,

Thanks for the input. I just got back from the running store where I bought the shoes. The salesman seemed agast with the size of the blister on my foot (a Susan B Anthony) and a podiatrist that they have as a consult said something about my metatarsals dropping down. I forgot to ask him when I could start back running. I got some gel inserts that I'll try and see how they do.
