You guys probably know this already but Melissa Ethridge has a song "I run for life" if you haven't heard it you should give it a try. Usually I like the heavier white knuckle tooth grinding music for running but when I heard this one I got chills.

I checked out the song by Melissa Ethridge, very cool. She had a great interview in The Advocate a couple of months ago-very inspiring. Are you training with Team-In-Training? I trained and ran with AIDS Marathon in Anchorage a couple of years ago. We were a small group of yellow in a sea of purple.

I go back and forth between running with and without my iPod. Sometimes a run 'au naturel' (with no music, that is--don't worry, the shorts always stay on... :) can be so much better than the soundtrack that I create with my playlists. And then there are times when I think that I probably wouldn't make it around the block without the motivation that music adds to a workout.

Any thoughts?

Hi guys,

I am new today and have been poking around the website and came across the discussions. I too as well love the Melissa Etheridge song. I blast it as the last song of my workout where I push with everything I have left in me. My battery did die however on a very hard workout last week, right at the beginning of it. At first I thought.. can I continue running without music in my ears?? Then I realized how crazy I sounded and continued running and felt great!! It was different as I have come to be so accustomed to running with music that when I ran without it was as exciting as when first running with my ipod. Sounds crazy doesn't it??

I love music!

Hi Guys,

it was great to read your comments. I have been running for years with music and when they finally invented the ipod I was in seventh heaven. I too have had it die on the first major hill in a long run and I though that I would run out of juice just like my ipod. I supprised myself and did one of my best runs that month without it.

However I would still perfer to run with than without. I have just move to a country property in the middle of NSW Australia. Everytime I run past the pastures, dams, cows and roadkill it reminds me of Forest Gump on his epic journey. No more profiling on shop windows for me.

Anyway my question is. Is it okay to fun with ipods in 1/2 marathons and marathons or are you consider less than mortal. As that is what I am training for.

I will definitly check out the Melissa Ethridge song and I am always tweeking my running music.

regards,

merrilee

Lyrics:

It's been years since they told her about it

The darkness her body possessed

And the scars are still there in the mirror

Everyday that she gets herself dressed

Though the pain is miles and miles behind her

And the fear is now a docile beast

If you ask her why she is still running

She'll tell you it makes her complete

CHORUS

I run for hope

I run to feel

I run for the truth

For all that is real

I run for your mother your sister your wife

I run for you and me my friend I run for life

It's a blur since they told me about it

How the darkness had taken its toll

And they cut into my skin and they cut into my body

But they will never get a piece of my soul

And now I'm still learning the lesson

To waken when I hear the call

And if you ask me why I am still running

I'll tell you I run for us all

CHORUS

And someday if they tell you about it

If the darkness knocks on your door

Remember her remember me

We will be running as we have before

Running for answers

Running for more
