There has been quite a bit of music discussion over the last few weeks. By request, we now have a brand new iPod and Music section of the discussion board. Lets get to it, what are your favorite workout songs and MP3 gear?

I am a big fan of my iPod Shuffle, and while you can't see the songs on it, it's great with its armband, I can go running and work out at the gym with it. I would like to see a waterproof iPod Shuffle so I can go swimming with it. As for tunes, most of you would laugh at some of my choices, so we will just say I have a vaired taste in music and enjoy most everything.

I dont have an mp3 player, yet, but have been looking into music as motivation. Specifically picking tunes that will either help me boost or lower my intensity. I know I've seen suggested songs for certian rpe's in my SHape magazine, but wonder if anyone knows of a webpage that has more ideas like that?

Personally I have my own list of songs that get me going and others that help me cool down... for instance, a song that gets me going is "I Turn To You (Hex Hector Remix)" by Melanie C and on the flip side I would choose something like "Soul Suckers" by Amos Lee for a cool down song? Are there in fact, proven songs that help people get the intensity up or down?

Just curious,

Not proven songs, so to speak, but songs with more tempo, probably--maybe even motivational lyrics.

SO, where do you download the music?Who has the best deal and do I have to know what kind of mp3 player I'll have before I start getting music (i.e. do they have different formats?) I am so new to this! :)

For the best experience, I'd have to suggest any version of the ipod music player. The itunes software also offers one of the best deals for purchasing music (99 cents per song) and comes free packaged with your ipod. I've open nearly every version of the ipod that has been released and really feel its worth the money!

Now since the Ipod is an apple product, do you run into any problems if you're not using a mac?

I've had an iPod for 2 years and can't imagine working out without it. I've used Limewire, a free service, to download tunes. You can select the format (mp3, mp4, wav) you want and, if you get an iPod, iTunes will convert the file when you drop it into your library.

There is no problem at all if you are not using a mac. There is a windows version of itunes that comes with hardware. Just load it and go!

I've been running i-tunes on windows XP for the last year and have had zero problems. i-tunes is the software used to manage your music and your i-pod,

I have a Sandisk and it is great! I just download the songs off of CDs and love it! It is hard for me to run without my tunes!

itunes isn't compatible with windows millenium. no problem with xp, though.

i have a nano, and even though it's "cool" and slim, i find it to be unwieldy due to the length. i also had to scour the net to find an armband for under $30.00!! i find i'm actually missing my slightly thicker (but otherwise more compact) iaudio.

i've had iaudio and iriver mp3 players in the past - they offer quality products, and most of iaudio's mp3 players have superior sound quality. better yet, you don't have to use any special software like itunes; they function as external drives.

the one thing that the ipod does best is navigation. no beating the clickwheel.

I've just got an iPod Shuffle. I only have my absolute favorite tunes on it,and I only use it for working out. I read about the Otterbox in a mens magazine and bought one of those to carry the iPod in. It's waterproof to three feet and offers very good protection. I just wear it on the lanyard around my neck for cardio.

Don't forget you can also download audio books onto your MP3 player.

I must have poor ear genetics... My problem is keeping the ear peices in. I actually got lso frustrated on my last run, that I abruptly stopped running and felt something pop in my calf. Any suggestions???

I love my Nano, and find I can put it most places when I exercise. I have an arm band, but I usually put it on the back of my hat when I run. I do find that my pace and motivation change with the song.

I also use Windows XP, no problems so far.

Finally, I have a client who is launching a MP3 product that will access Sirius radio as well as store songs. It is available, but I have not seen one yet.

I must have that product. I'd rather listen to football games than music during my long runs. I have sirius at home and car, if you have more information on the MP3 version, please keep me posted. Thanks!

Ear pods don't work for my ears either. I have to use a headset type, not the pods. Not as compact but at least I get my music. I have tried many but have yet to find small ear buds that fit in my ears. Anyone else? Beverly

My kids have picked up the Sandisk, 2 gig and 4 gig I dont know how they can listen to so many songs, but the neat thing is it has and FM tuner built in. Works well with Xp and downloading songs off of windows media player is a breeze, I am thinking of a picking up a 2gig for myself. Like the sandisk you can see the songs, catagories etc. prices just droppped.

I like my 60gb I-pod, allthough it is a little heavy on the arm, so I usually just toss it in my pocket or carry it in my hand.

I use the most recent version of the Nano. In addition I've got a Nike+ receiver to keep track of time, distance and calories. It's pretty cool.

I have a Sansea Sandisk and I love it. It is about the same size as the iPod Nano but I got it for $90 less and it has a built in FM tuner. The tuner comes in handy when I have to hit the treadmill at the gym. I can tune it to the TVs.

It comes with the Rhapsody software and you can download unlimited songs to your MP3 player for $15 per month.

Am certainly enjoying my ipod touch! During walks I listen to University lectures or audio books. For music, in addition to my old-fogie smooth jazz, I've been trying "Goa Trance" stuff (which is totally weird since I'm a middle-aged guy), and you know, I kind of like it! Has a very regular rhythm and seems to help me pick up the pace.... :)

hi everyone, i ve been using i pods for the last couple of years with a PC , i have XP now and have no problems but my PC crashed about 18 months ago and Apple wont do anything to help you recover your library if you have a PC, if you have a Mac then they can get it back for you and your hard earned cash doesnt just disappear into the ether, my advice , BACK IT UP !

i just got a touch for Xmas and got my husband a Nano...... as you can imagine we dont talk any more just walk around the house with our respective libraries nodding to each other !
