Dan, that is probably one of the most common challenges wrt weight loss. I've lost 91 pounds so far (still have 9 to go) and this is what works for me most of the time (there are still times when I just end up giving in to those urges):
1. mini carrots dipped in Kraft light creamy cucumber salad dressing as dip.
2. light popcorn (the Smart kind is good).
3. strangely enough, sometimes I make a huge stirfry or fruit salad if I'm starving, even at strange hours. I figure that at least if I'm going to eat, I'm going to binge on healthy foods.
4. distraction (do something that keeps my fingers busy or gets me out of the house.
At the moment, those are all of the ideas I can come up with, but I'm sure others will jump in here too with suggestions.
Good luck with your weight-loss journey. It is a struggle at times, but it is well worth the rewards. |

I plan for an snack every evening after supper. I make sugar free chocolate fudge pudding and have 1 cup almost every night. It satisifies my sweet tooth and my chocolate craving and is a dairy serving.
I've also noticed that getting healthy oils in my diet helps with cravings. I make salad dressing with olive oil and have it on my dinner salad each night. |

Hi Daniel. Stay hydrated - I've read that a lot of times people think they're hungry but actually are slightly dehydrated (I didn't say that well, sorry). Make sure you're getting enough sleep, as tough as that is for some of us. Oftentimes people eat "for energy" when they're tired. You could try a ten minute walk when you're about to give in to cravings. Don't let yourself eat in front of the TV, because it becomes a habit. I love frozen seedless grapes as a snack. I wash them and put individual servings in baggies in the freezer. You could find a hobby to work on that keeps you relaxed and involved. Best wishes. John |

I also have noticed that by keeping water bottles in the car ( where I am most of the day) when I first think Hey, Im kinda hungry, I down some water. Same at night. Seems to be helping. Have been keeping sugar free Jello in fridge at all times and this helps me. If the family doesnt find it first.
Hope it helps. |

I am a sucker for evening snacks. When I finish dinner, that is the next thing on my mind. The thing I have found most usefull is writing in a journal. Not so much a food journal, but an emotional journal. Most of my eating habits are from boredom. I have a journal that I keep and when I am craving sweets at night, I write about why I am craving them, and ask myself questions like:
- What are the benefits of eating this
- What are the benefits from not eating this
- Will I be happy with my decision after I eat this food
- How does this fit into my plan
I basically reason with myself and find out why I was craving the food. If it was boredom, I just got myself occupied with something else, and my fitness goals are the first thing on my mind again.
I don't know if that helps, but it has really helped me!
