What is your Age,

Ricky - any time you spend on a treadmill is good! I weigh 234 and I can't complete a mile in less than 20 minutes no matter how hard I work; and I have been walking for years. I can walk 20 miles no problem; I just can't do it fast. Just keep doing what you are doing; you are doing wonderfully. Don't let the elite athletes judge you; you are not sitting on the couch so you are doing fine. |

I agree with Nora. You are moving and that is where it has to start!
I would suggest forget the run if you "just" started. Begin with the walk for awhile to let your body adjust to the new activities and the changes it is going to go through by burning calories. Start with the 16 minutes as your benchmark and work from there. Once it starts to get easier and you knock that down to 15, 14, 13, 12 minutes and increase mileage then you might want to start working on a walk run combo and progress from there. Before you know it you will be ready for your first marathon. =)
GREAT JOB and KEEP IT UP!!! |

Wow! YOu don't give a lot of information about your self, but I weigh 228 today, been working at getting in shape for 3+ years and my best time is 3, 13 minute run/walk miles - and I have lost 50+ pds. So, I think 16 minutes is great. I would however suggest you not push too hard if you are really just starting...let yourself get into shape with out killing yourself, really.
But keep on working at it. An Again, Congratulations! |

So that is definitely old enough to be cautious about over stressing - more people have heart attacks after streneous exercise than any other activity...and I think sex is next...anyway, the point is to get into shape before really pushing it. - and I am 56 and in great shape except for a little over weight...20 pounds..that's all I want to lose! |
