Wondered if anyone has had similar circumstances and if so what ideas they have.
I have been having some pain on the outside and a little below my knee. I thought it might be an IT band problem but it doesn't bother me when I run. Only when I stand up from a chair, go upstairs, or climb a ladder. I have tried doing squats but get to a certain position and basically collapse when the pain hits.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated by me and my knees.

Hey Bob,
I have knee issues too (but not the degree that I can't do squats...owie...poor you!!!). I found this article on runnersworld.com helpful in giving me a sense of what might be going on:

hope that's a helpful start, and hope your knee heals soon!!!

Another thought...maybe it's not a knee problem; flat feet, incorrect spine alignment, pulled muscles, yadda, yadda, yadda all can cause problems. My flat feet caused knee issues a long time ago. I wear orthotics now and really notice in my body as a whole if I don't use them. Listen to your body! Beverly |

Bob,
I'm experiencing what sounds like a similar issue. Outside of my right knee. Pain hits when I bend my knee back less than 90 degrees, like when your doing squats that are too deep. My chiro thought I might have a minor injury to my lateral something or other ligament. But I also have some pain in my upper right thigh. I had initially thought about an IT band issue, but I knocked out a 6 mile run last night with no pain in my knees.
I don't know if you're a cyclist or not, but I was reading about pedal/cleat misalignment causing similar issues. I am beginning to lean toward some sort of issue with my cleat placement on my cycling shoes. Also, I am wondering about some of the issues mentioned in the other post - hip alignment, etc. That or I guess I will soon have to chalk it up to old age.
