For anyone who is interested, I'm testing the waters on a mobile version of Fitness Journal, designed for the iPhone. All you need is an FJ account and an iPhone to access the system. Just point your iPhone to http://cell.fitnessjournal.org and make sure to create a bookmark on that first page. Next, login to your account and head over to the settings button. Activate auto-login and you will never need to enter in your login and password again!
This is a lite version, and will get built up as I start hearing feedback from users. Of course, everything you do on your iphone stays exactly in sync with your web based journal.

Only testing with iphone users at the moment.

To setup a home screen bookmark right on the main screen of your iPhone, do the following:
1: visit the login URL for the iphone via the iPhone safari web browser
2: click on the "+" button next to your right and left arrow navigation on the bottom middle of the iphone interface
3: select the "Add to Home Screen" option
4: name this icon whatever you like.
it will now appear as FJ mobile right on your home page |

Once you have successfully logged into FJ Mobile once, navigate to the settings option and set auto login for this phone. You will never need to login again to access your fitness journal. Just click on the new FJ Mobile icon on your home page. You should see a welcome screen with your name on it. One click access! |

We are launching with just a limited number of FJ apps for iPhone use. I will be porting over many more utilities in the near future. Not every app needs an iPhone optimized version. Much of what we need on the run is very simple and straight forward. Stay tuned for more info on upcoming iPhone developments. |

This looks cool, I am waiting for the new updated Iphone to come out next month and will be making a purchase asap. Nice that they have brought the price down to a respectable level.
How do you like your's thus far Chris? |

I've spent the last 6 months getting to know the phone and how I use it. As a past owner of multiple treo and blackberry devices, I'm thrilled with my iPhone. One word of advice in regards to its keyboard. Its a big leap to move from a hard keyboard to a screen based keyboard. You need to learn to trust your iPhone. I didn't understand when people told me this prior to using one. You won't spell things correctly on the keyboard based on lazy fingers. The iPhone understands this and corrects your mistakes as you type. Its quite clever.
I've tried to trim down the utilities to make it easy to enter data quickly using an iPhone. Not all features will be available from your phone. Some things will require a regular web browser to accomplish due to the limited screen real estate. |

You can now end the post-workout arguments with your friends over who has the most time or distance. Now just login to your mobile fitness journal on your iphone and click on the friends section to compare notes on hours, distance, and calories. You can also view weekly summary for each friend and send instant messages to your friends journal right through your phone. |

There is now a new handbook category dedicated to iPhone use. This handbook is available from within your regular web journal and mobile iPhone journal by clicking on the handbook (or guide) icon. The latest help files will always be available in this location.

Pat, to remove a button from your home screen, PRESS AND HOLD on the button until all the buttons start shaking. After the buttons are shaking (I know it sounds funny, but its true), you will find an X at the top of your new home button. just click on the X to remove the button. You can stop the buttons from shaking by clicking on the circle button on the iPhone hardware (at the bottom). |

Ok, there was a reported bug on the one touch login not working for some users. This was traced to a missing SHA1 encryption key for some accounts. The phone will let you know if in fact you don't have an SHA1 key in place and will ask you to set one. Once you have set this key, you should be able to set auto login again and then login with one touch from your home screen. |

Apple noticed our iPhone app as well. Fitness Journal Mobile has a feature page at the Apple website. Sweet!

Chris,
Thanks for the early advice on getting up and running on the iphone. I have been logging my workouts in the car rather than at home which is a time saver...until I get into an accident that is.
As for comparing workouts via the iphone.. I have to wait for JC1.5 to get out of jail before harassing him on workout volume (refer to his recent post).
Ha.
Keep up the work
