a week or so ago I posted a question here about ways to make FJ more social, even for the members who have signed up and paid.

It seems to me that the only way for us to get more social on FJ (it's all about sharing after all) is to join the FitnessJournal group on Facebook. Currently there are just 13 members, including Chris and me so we could get a lot more folks on there. At least that way we can see who else is an FJ member and maybe link as friends on Facebook or in FJ.

Nice idea - but maybe some explaination of what Facebook is, and why it is good...

Facebook is a social network site (www.facebook.com). You register and then connect with your friends who are also on facebook. You can share as much or as little of your whole life with those friends. There are special interest groups (for example there is a Fitness Journal group), fan sites for anyone from motor racing stars to local musicians, applications for interacting with other members etc.

The difference between using Facebook and FJ for friend finding is that if other members of FJ join the facebook group, you will be able to see who they are and, if they choose to expose the information, where they are from. You can then send them a message within facebook, you don't need to know their email address, and ask "hey wanna connect on FJ?" or something similar.

The reason that I suggest Facebook is simply because you don't know who you don't know on FJ and so how do you hook up unless you convince all of your "real world" friends to subscribe? Most of my real world friends are not that interested in keeping a fitness journal.

My concern is all the 'bad press' that it gets and the potential risks from it - risks to me and my computer. I have to admit that I would be a lot happier if there was some way that we could link up on here and Chris indicated that there will be at some point soon as he continues to do the upgrades.

I have made a lot of friends right here on FJ, join a challenge or start a challenge...we have been doing the walking challenge but to be honest, we have all gotten so busy we aren't really talking anymore..at least not here on one of these threads...I have and do communicate in private with several of the people I have met on the walking challenge...

Of course there is nothing wrong with facebook, I just have no time for it at all, but i am sure others might. Good luck...and if you want check in at the walking challenge and I will try to post more public responses.
