Anybody out there from Rochester, MN?
I'm into running, am going to be training for Grandma's Marathon (My first marathon at 45 years of age!). I can use all of the support I can get.
If you're from Rochester, or vicinity and would like to get in touch, let me know! |

Grandma's is such a gorgeous run - good choice!! The weather is stellar also - warm enough to keep your muscles loose with just enough of a cool breeze coming in off the lake to make you feel invincible!! Congrats on tackling your first Marathon!! The most critical part of training for my first (in addition to loggin' those crazy miles) was learning how to tune into my body. We get so wrapped up in our day-to-day lives that folks rarely pay their physical bodies much attention . . . unless something hurts. As you build up your miles, you'll be able to tune into all those little clues your body is throwing at you. This teaches you to know when you need to ease up and when you can steam full speed ahead. (A critical skill to have when you start hitting those 12 and 15 mile runs in your training program.)
I'm out in DC right now, but grew up in MN and lived up in Duluth for a few years. That place is just phenomenal! Big cheers for you and good luck!!

Scott,
I'm closer than most. I live in Eden Prairie. I'm doing a 1/2 Iron Man to kick off the season. However, I have a bum knee that I won't be able to run on for at least a couple of weeks!
I have run TC but not Grandma's. I'd love to run it sometime. My friend just learned that they are in on the lotter for the 1/2 marathon. Or..was that TC?
Anyway, best of luck and keep us posted on your progress. If FJers can't be there in person...they can in spirit.

Thanks Christina.
I finished the Marathon in just under 5 hours. I was shooting for 4:30, but it was 88 degrees, humid, no breeze. I was counting on the breeze off of the lake. Anyhow, I got through it, and plan on doing it next year. (Other than the blisters, I emerged fairly unscathed)
I had a GREAT time. I can't wait until my next marathon. Probably will be Grandma's again next year, then possibly Chicago. I think I'll do a couple of local half marathons yet this summer.
Thanks for your support!

Scott - Way to go. Congrats on completing your 1st marathon. And thanks for the update. It lifts everyone's spirits to see a post from almost 6 month's ago get updated with a success (despite those pesky blisters).
Keep on truckin!
