Wow, it's already almost here. My race is in 10 days. Tapering is so tough, I've found. Does everyone go through the "I'm training so little that I'm getting fat and all my muscle is turning to mush" feeling? Then I look back on my training and stress over whether I've done enough or not! |

yeah, I think we all go through that especially with the volume of training necessary for an IM....but as my wise friend told me...the only thing that's going to make you faster/stronger is the taper...taking the time to heal...regenerate and fill those glycogen stores!! Joy, you'll do so awesome and I'm sure it'll be the best experience...make sure to let us know how the race goes AND post pics too!! |

Hey Joy.
Congrats on going to Kona! I haven't visited the Boards in a while and didn't realize you're doing THE Ironman. I was planning on watching online and now I have someone I know to cheer for - that's very exciting. Please post your race number here for us so we can track you.
As to the taper angst - if you're feeling the way you describe then supposedly you're doing it right. This is the hard part but trust your training, stick to your plan and resist the temptation to do too much and you will have a GREAT race.
Good luck and take it easy.

Way to go Joy - You are going to do fab.
Sounds like you got it right, my friend said that he felt much better, 2-3 days before the race as he was doing short burst speed interval training. I was with him on these runs and rides.
I'll be watching on TV, I'll try to keep an eye out for you.
I have a friend from Napa going to Kona, unfortunately, he broke his collar bone in a bike riding accident right after qualifying, and has not been able to train for it, but he is going anyway as he can not pass up the opportunity.
Best of luck!

Thanks everyone! I'm coming up with strange pains throughout my body these days. How is that, when I feel like I've barely been doing anything! I'll try to get lots of good pics while I'm on the Island and post some here. I'll be smiling for the cameras too!
