I'm looking for some information on Ironman Florida. I have never done an open water ocean swim and wanted to get some advice on what to do and what not do do on the swim.. I feel very confident with my bike and run I'm just not sure about the swim and would hate to have the swim ruin my first Ironman. I've done open water lake swims and have no proplems with them i just don't know how big of a difference their is in the two. Any advise would be great.
How is the weather that time of year along with the humidity??
Also wanted to know who else in the FJ world is doing IMF?
Thanks

Hey Pat -
I am guessing that people will recommend getting in some Ocean swims ahead of the event. I have heard some good things about swimming out at Dillon Beach by Bodega. I also have not swam in the Ocean, only the bay once and it was very sheltered.
If you want to get together, I would be happy to join you as it is something that you should have some other people around for.
Why don't you throw out a suggestion to the WC Velo group? Dave and Sarah might have interest.

Patrick,
A few quick points...IMFL will be wetsuit legal, ocean water is more bouyant than lake water, the mass start will basically pull you along to the first turn buoy, learn to breath on both sides because of possible waves/chop, IMFL is a two loop swim course, heat and humidity at that time of the year is non-existent. Last year is was COLD and you needed to use arm warmers or small jackets at the beginning of the bike. Everyone was at Wal-Mart before the race.
Nicole Hopkins, who is an FJ member, will be doing IMFL and I will be cheering my friends on.
