I ran a half marathon in Calgary yesterday. I was using it as a training run for my half ironman coming up next month - so my plan was to try to run at a slower pace, to mimic my half iron pace.
I didn't know anything about the course, other than it went along the river in Calgary - so I assumed it would be relatively flat, and it was, until about 15k (right after i had hit the wall) all of the sudden it shot straight up into about 3k of super steep hills, and then a long pounding downhill back down to the river - a little hard on the knees!! I was not pleasently surprised by the hills to say the least!
Anyways, I was aiming for about 2:15, but came in at 2:06, I found it quite difficult to keep a slower pace. All in all though it was a good day, my hip flexors are quite sore today from those hills, but other than that all is good!
5 Weeks today untill the 1/2 iron and I'm itching to race!
