Ran the 10 mile Crim in Flint MI on Saturday. Woke up at 5:15 am and was on the road to Flint at 5:30. I have my breakfast and gatorade on the ride there. I arrive around 6:20. Make my way to pick up my bib number and chip and find my friend there waiting for me. We then proceed to warm up and stretch. Before we know it its time to start. The race starts and we go our own way. First 5 miles are a breeze with no problems. Then there is this hill to climb after mile 5 and I begin to have issues. For those of you who have run this race you know what I'm talking about. I make it about half way up the hill and my body suddenly decides its out of gas. So I pull over and walk for about a minute and try to run again. Come to find out I'm completely out of gas and am forced to run/walk the remainder of the race. I finished with a respectable time of 1:33:48 but would have been much happier had I had a stronger race. My buddy had a great race. It was his first time as well and finished at 1:21 and some change. I learned a few lessons during this race, one being that I need more hill training and some more miles in general to run the race how I'd like to. Overall it was a fun race. The volunteers were great and did an awesome job! Water stations at every mile plus a few in between. If ya'll get a chance to run this in the future I highly recommend it! Over 12,000 runners/walkers!!

Hi Scott,

I learned like you after doing the Crim for the first time that I needed some hill training. It is a great race and the temps in Aug. in Michigan usually doesn't help to make it any easier. Are the frat guys still out offering beer? I could hardly handle smelling it when I passed them.

Are you thinking of doing the new Brooksie Half in the fall? That is my old running area and passes pretty close to where I used to live. There are some rolling hills there, should be a nice course.

At this point, no I'm not planning on running the Brooksie 1/2. Classes start up next week and I am not sure how much time for training I will be able to put aside. In fact after the Mackinac Island 8 mile I'm not sure how many more races I'll partake in this year. Probably a 5k hear and there just to keep in shape. I should be able to run often enough to do a few of those. My running season is pretty much coming to a close for the most part.
