Anybody doing this one? It's around Dallas. It's my first. I did a 1/2 last year so it's time to kick it up some. I've heard there are all kinds of bands and fun. |

Vickie,
Yes, Bob and Ricky are doing this event.
I was shot down by my better half when I asked if I could do it. Round 1: Greg 0; Wife 1.

Vickie, As Greg stated, Bob Owen and I are both running this marathon. Bob has run it before and knows the course. It will also be my first marathon. I've already made reservations with my wife, not a runner, at the Hotel Lawrence in downtown. I've registered for the Friday night shindig and the Saturday night pasta. Bob and I keep everyone updated on our progress in the 12 week challenge.
Wish you the best of luck in your first marathon!

Vicky,
If you go to runtherock.com and look under course information, they have a map with elevations shown. At the start they have some jets fly over and if I can figure out how to snag one of them I might have a chance to keep up with Ricky. Yea he's pretty fast alright. |

But then Bob thinks anyone faster than him is fast. He is the god (little g) of endurance. I'm going to hang on to his ankles and let him drag me through the run. Is that legal? |

What Ricky sees as endurance I see as stubbornness. If I can ever get my mind around the possibility of finishing something, I'll hang on to the bitter end (ie 180 laps on an indoor track) Which by the way I went down and measured the lanes with one of those wheel measuring deals and their so call 1/10 of a mile track turned out to be 1/10 about 6 inches off center of the inside lane! Now I'm even more tired than I thought I was running in the very outside lane.
Ricky, as an experienced finisher in the marathon I would recommend you start about 3 or 4 people back from the Kenyans. That way you can draft off of them most of the way. Ha Ha Ha. I think it will be me holding your ankles saying "please don't run off and leave me". Boy can you just imagine the kind of comedy show those around us are going to get. I think if someone laughs more than 3 time we should charge them 10 bucks. Maybe we can earn back our entry fee.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen....take my shoes please. I just flew in from Kenya and boy are my arms tired......Don't forget to try the veal........gummy bears......the Ricky and Bob show will be appearing one day only December 9,2007 in Dallas |

In the spirit of the Marathon, I decided to do a long run to see if I can get some longer mileage under my belt. Before today my long run was 6 miles which I did about a month ago.
Today, I went out for 10.5 miles! I converted all my energy over the last month from bike and run into this single long run. I went out on the first 5 miles at about 10:20 min/mile and finished the last five at abut 9:45 min/mile and averaged 10:02 overall.
I may make the WRM yet!

Hey Greg,
You do remember that we have speed limits in Big D. If you keep that pace up your liable to get a speeding ticket. :0) |

Vickie,
I finished 16 miles last weekend and this one I'm pushing a bit and going for 20. Now remember that I am not able to run these distances non stop. I do a walk / run and even at that I walk a lot and run not so fast. My goal is 1) to finish. If I finish about the same time as last year I get a "C" 15 minutes either side it's "D" and "B". 30 minutes either side well on the low side I would have run out of time but on the high side I would give myself an "A". It's a big event Vickie and this year there is a cap on the number of runners. The guy I talked to said that he didn't think that it would fill up before November but if you haven't signed up, don't wait too long. I registered for the Marathon and the Asics Texas 20 the other day. It's getting closer...
Not sure where Ricky aka Flash is. It sounds like he has been doing great though. Don't know if Greg will make it but we'll see.
Keep training! |

Vickie,
Congratulations to you and your group. I wish Chris had gotten some regular t shirts to wear during the race. Beware of these two guys in the picture. I'm not sure what we will be wearing for the cold temps.
Hope you do better than you think you can.

Wow! What a race. I'm soo sorry I didn't hang out for you guys. I wasn't in as good shape as I had hoped/dreamed ;). Congrats on your races!! It was the hardest race I've ever run. I came up lame at mile 7, and couldn't believe that my race was over! My right IT band was soo tight it felt like I was tearing the muscle from the bone. I ran with a limp for 1/2 a mile and it loosened up enough to tolerate it. I made a couple of stops for intake and output (enough said) and it was about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile each time (with a few tears) I was back to the business of gettin it done. It was the toughest race mentally and physically yet. Thanks for all the positive vibes!!! Vickie
PS- 26.2 Baby, Yay! |

Now Vickie I have to say that for your first marathon, that was way way too fast.:-) Especially being injured and everything. Seriously congratulations.
It sounds like you were the one teaching your training group. |

Vickie,
I know about that pain. Advil was my friend that day. You should jump over to the 12 week challenge message board. There are a lot of messages over there congratulating you. That's where Bob and I are usually hanging out.
