OK, so it's far enough out there, 1-14-07, PF Changs in AZ. I've never, and I do mean never, ran more than maybe 8 miles at once (20+ years ago). Yikes. My cousin and I talked about this this weekend but then she went and signed up when I told her today was the last early registration day. So, I couldn't leave her hanging. She lives in Midland TX and I live in St Louis MO so we can't train together. I am freaking out!!! But I passed one of the biggest hurdles, I guess, signing up. Wow. Beverly

Beverly,

You are a hoot and it sounds like something I would do!!! You will be fine and I am sure you will have a GRRRRRREAT time. There are plenty of training days between now and then so get to it. Before I ran my first half marathon, the longest run prior to the event was an 8 miler the weekend before.

Have FUN!!!

Beverly,

You'll do great! That event is lots of fun, tons of people participating and cheering you on through out the course. My mom and I did the half the first year they had it (2004 I think, can't quite remember)and in 2007 we registered for the full. The program we follow is the run/walk method by Jeff Galloway. www.jeffgalloway.com This works well for me because of past knee surgery. It also helped me to feel pretty good through the whole thing, especially towards the end when everyone looked exhausted and I kept passing people! If you ever need any advice just send me a message. Probably the most difficult part for you would be adjusting to the heat, even in January Phx can be a bit warm.

Summer, Thanks! I was thinking about the Galloway program so it's good to hear encouragement from someone who's used it. A friend of mine has run this race either as a half or whole since inception. She'll be there too. I probably will be sending you messages! Beverly

Melissa, I sooooo know what you're talking about. I find that just getting started really helps. I may procrastinate but once I'm out there...it's better! Please contact me at any time (and I'll call on you!!) when inspiration is needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beverly
