Anyone planning on this one? Or has anyone previously done this race? I'm doing the half, and would love to know what to expect!

I did this marathon 2 years ago when the resurrected it...wasn't horrible but definitely not as good as others I've done. My biggest gripes are as follows... the porta potties along the course had a lane of moving traffic between them and the runners for much of the second half of the marathon...not safe...and that the water stops and gu stations were not as advertised, the miles were horribly mis-marked and they had a showgirl but no chipendale to take pics with at the end of the race!! It was awesome to run down the strip though...at the end of the race those big hotels looked a LOT closer than they actually were...good luck! |

I did the half a couple of times, but before they reformatted it. I liked the setting and it was nice and flat. There can be a brutal wind on parts of the course. Also, it is hard to get back to your hotel after finishing because by then strip very crowded, so either stay near finish line, prepare for a little extra walk or bring $$ for monorail with you. |

Hi,
I ran the half last year and loved it! I ran a PR of 1hr 48min. I however started too far back in the pack and was dodging people at the beginning. The downfall for me was that the miles weren't clearly marked and I had a tough time trying to figure out if I was on track or not for the time I wanted. The good thing is that it's very flat and if you stay right at Mandalay Bay it's a good idea. I don't know what the parking situation was like but I'm guessing it wasn't good with the number of runners. It was only 5 degrees Celcius at the start and warmed up quite a bit as the race goes on so it's hard to know what to wear.
Bottom line though, the most fun I've ever had at a race and I'm certainly planning on running it again this year.

Thanks for all your responses! This will be my first visit to Vegas all well, so I'm super psyched. I'm glad to hear the course is pretty flat, and will have to remember to wear my watch so I can keep track of my pace! Good luck to everyone! |

Hi Alicia,
I did this one last year. It was not my favorite but worth the experience. The costumes were great, and there were loads of laughs along the way. However, there are parts that are agonizingly boring -- out in the middle of no where. Running down the strip was amazing. The only thing that was really annoying is they claim there is no cut-off time, but there really is. If you are on the slow side, be prepared for the water stops, gu stops, and post-race events to be shutting down. I ran it with my friend who actually had major stomach issues that day, and we were basically on our own for the last 5 miles, which is when you really need some support!
Good luck! |

Oops, sorry. I didn't realize you're doing the half. The half is much better than the full. you'll have a blast and be entertained the entire way!

I liked it fairly well. I'm considering doing it again this year, but probably won't manage to decide before it fills |
