Yes I am very excited. I am doing the half marathon - it will be my third ever. I'd LOVE to get under 2 hours but i think i am looking at 2h10 but maybe because it goes near my house i will be more motivated to run faster!!
Anyway, good luck to anyone running it. Also a friend of mine registered a long time ago and is since quite pregnant. If anyone is interested in talking to her about obtaining her HALF marathon number, let me know.
Wish me luck! |

Good luck Amanda! my daughter just ran the Austin Texas half marathon a couple of weeks ago. Her first but she did the marathon last year but had a neck injury this year from a auto accident. She finished in 2:53.. Good luck again!
Actually the race was mid feb. Wow, how time fly's and I hope you do the same..

Amanda,
I was born and raised in GA around the ST MTN area way back when. I heard about the ING marathon and took the virtual tour of the course. It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun. I wanted to do it, being the first ever and everything, but it conflicted with a triathlon that I will be competing in this Saturday. Oh well...I will just live vicariously through you. Make sure you post a race report afterwards. We want to hear about how you finished in 1:59:59!!!

Thanks mike and Jim for your kind words! I'll do my best to break 2 hours. I some how broke my personal best for a 10K 2 weeks ago by 5 minutes so I see how it is possible with all the training, the right weather and a good course!
Good luck with your triathlon. Now that sounds fun! |

Amanda,
If you think that sounds fun then you should come down to Macon on June 3rd and hang out and watch us do the Rock N Roll Man Half Ironman Triathlon. A handful of my tri club folks are doing this one so it should be fun!!!

Hey Amanda,
It sounds like you're on track for a PR, that 10km time is a great indicator. Just remember not to get carried away at the start and to stick to your pace - plan your race then race your plan!
And if you need a new challenge once you've laid down a PR at your half, triathlons ARE fun.
Good luck!
Alison. |

Oh wow that DOES sound cool. So what does it entail? A friend of mine is very interested in going for an ironman deal. He did a full marathon for the InG and he has very kindly offered to run with me at Thanksgiving when I think I am going to go for my first FULL. Kind of scary but i think i can do it.
Ok so tell me more about Ironman in Macon! |

It is a 1/2 Ironman so you swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run a half marathon 13.1 miles. (Total 70.3 miles) In Macon the swim is in a lake and I have heard the bike course has some rolling hills so a little tough but nothing drastic.

Hey Jim, I met with my friend (who I think i mentioned on here and was thinking about a 1/2 ironman) last night for a 10 mile training run and he told me he has just signed up to do that very same race. He is a good swimmer, and a good runner but he hardly ever cycles so he is going to start adding cycling into our training programs. So it looks like i might be heading down to Macon after all. This is in June right? I am excited to see it. Unfortunately I don't know at all how to swim fast. But one day maybe i'll train up for one of these too. Right now i am setting my sights on the Atlanta Marathon. The same friend, let's call him "Wade", has said he will run it with me even though he is a considerably faster runner. It has given me a lot more faith that i can do this! |

Amanda,
Oh trust me...you don't have to swim fast, just fast enough to meet the cutoff time. It's more about just finishing. Once you do that then you can start working on your times.
Yes it is in June so we will be looking for you and give you our bib numbers so you can cheer us on as we pass by. Tell "Wade" to work on that bike because I hear the Macon course is a lot of rollers (hills) and is pretty tough.
We will see you in June!!!

Hey Jim
So its the half-ironman this weekend and I am going to pop down to see my friend Wade who is taking part. He is most worried and feeling unprepared (he and his wife had a baby 4 weeks ago so time for training has been short). But i will be down there for the end of the bike and the half marathon. Let me know if you are still doing it and how i will recognize you to give you a good old shout out. I am relatively easy to recognize as i am the short brunette one among tall blond women, and if you hear me talking, i have a British accent which is a bit of a giveaway.
GOOD LUCKKKK!!!
Amanda
