Okay folks, I am going to try it. My FIRST Marathon!!!! I was not planning on attempting this feat at this time but, it is destiny.
I picked up the new Runner's World magazine and noticed a list of 2006 marathons. Low and behold there was one on my birthday at Tybee Island. So, I thought why not give it a try. I know I will not be running the entire distance but my goal is to just complete it and get that finishers medal. It is going to be tough and I will be amazed if I do finish but I have to make the attempt. What a life memory to say I completed my first marathon on my birthday. |

I just joined FJ. I know it's a bit late but I'm wondering how your B-day / Tybee Island Marathon went.
I'm new to running and I'll be running the Twin Cities Marathon on Oct. 1st. |

Kelly,
Unfortunately, scheduling caused me to abandon the dream. Instead I did a Half Marathon in March. That went well except for the last half mile. Everything started to hurt at that moment but I pushed through to the end.
Since then, I have been too busy with other activities to find or train for a marathon. However, now the time has come once again and I am working up to the distance. I will be completing my first one on November 4th. That is of course after I swim 2.4 miles and ride 112 miles. |

Congrats on pushing thru to the end of the 1/2 marathon and signing up for the marathon on Nov. 4th. Oh and the swimming 2.4 miles and biking 112 miles. =)
Good luck!

Hey Dr. J
I was at the CMM also but did the half. It wasn't a great experience for me because I had some knee issues that caused me to walk that last few miles so I was not happy with my time but I was happy that I finished and the race overall was just fun to be with everyone. I will probably be there next year to try the full.

I did the half at the CMM as part of my 13 1/2 marathons in 13 months. I really liked it. I might go back for the full one day, but next on my list is rock 'n' roll arizona in January. |

Has anyone heard of the Heartland Marathon (or possibly Heart of America) in Columbia, MO? It was today. My son in law is training for the Wash DC marathon and went to watch this one. Apparently the course is a difficult one, with a hill that everyone has to walk up. Pretty much is a race that only the seasoned marathoners do. One guy even ran the entire 26 miles barefoot with a 4 mile patch that is rough gravel/rock. Crazy! |

Congratulations Roxanne on your first marathon! I have not run a marathon myself but think these links will be helpful to you:

Hi Heather,
At least the full marathon in Vancouver doesn't have any seriously nasty hills so you don't need to train for that. The the half marathon at that race goes up an evil incline in Stanley Park, luckily you get to turn off before that.
Get in touch with some of the Vancouver running stores (Forerunners [forerunners.ca], Running Room , etc.) as that tends to be one the big goals their run clubs aim for. They can probably set in you in the right direction for timing your training.
Good luck! |

Good luck, which one are you doing?
Check out the Runner's World planner at http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/smartcoach/ to create a 16 week program based on a recent time and how hard you want to train. |
