The Terrible Two, held each year in Sonoma and Napa counties covers 200 miles and get this - 16,000 feet of climbing. This is absolutely one of the toughest double centuries in the world. One of our local team members decided to take on the challenge this year. He has trained hard for the last 6 months just for this day. Here are a few pictures I just took out on the course. Go Lee!!!

Its going to be a HOT day out there. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Trinity is one if the feature climbs during the tour of California. There are words and names spray painted all over the road on the way up the climb. While its a steep start, its a worthy climb, one of the first Lee will face over the next 14-16 hours

The decent from Trinity. It says on the terrible two website: "if you have never done a double century, don't make the terrible two your first one".

A few rider close-ups. Everyone is prepared for a long solo day. Don't be fooled by the other riders around. It is just you and your thoughts against 200 hot and hilly miles. Your mind van play tricks on you out there.

Great morning started at 60 degrees. Highs are expected to be over 100 in some areas of the course. Heat pockets form where the breeze can't reach. One hundred degrees ambient temperature paired with black asphalt can create patches of 115 degrees or higher. The climbs are hard in the direct sun, but the extreme heat in some of the lowlands can be just as harsh.

Fast decent. There were what looked like a few crashes on the way down the hill. A gentleman with blood dripping from his forehead looked dazed as he was attended to by the SAG vehicle. His bike went down on a particularly dangerous S turn on the back side of trinity. The decent is wild with twists and turns that can compare to a rollercoaster thrill ride - except there us ni track, and no safety belt. Its common to hit over 50 miles an hour as the riders decend oakville grade into the valley. Good luck Lee! Enjoy your 200 miles. You trained hard and earned it!

Chris - Nice commentary to go along with the photo's. I was talked in to doing a 10k run in the morning with more that 1700 ft of climbing. at 9am it was already HOT, when I finished and got into my car it was 103.

All I could think about as I was running the course was Lee and the other riders doing the Terrible Two. I knew I would only be out there an hour where they would be out there all day. Some from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm!!!!!
