OK, so I've never really raced a 10k before, other than part of a triathlon - in which my time has been about 55min. In training runs, I usually run at an average of a 5:30 pace, which I know isn't that fast, but with having done no speed training it's about as good as it gets for me!
So I entered a local 10k on Sunday, and my 'realistic' goal was 53min, but I thought it would be a really good challenge for me to break the 50 min mark.
So I had my Garmin and stayed consistently between 4:40 - 5:10 pace and at every kilometre mark I was right on pace. It was a bit of a grunt, super flat course which I don't really like because there is no variation, but I kept the pace up and I crossed the line in 49:49!! I was pumped!!
Next stop 45min! |
